Steve Dempsey was recently promoted to executive director of Planning and Construction at BWH.

Dempsey previously served as director of Planning and Construction for the past 16 years. As executive director, he continues to oversee and contribute to capital planning, financial analysis and space planning for the 100-plus projects the department manages at any given time. Dempsey reports to David McCready, senior vice president for Surgical, Procedural and Imaging Services, and Facilities and Operations.

“Steve is a remarkably capable, intelligent and trusted leader at the Brigham. He has put his heart and soul into our hospital for so many years, and his imprint is on nearly every major construction project that we have completed in recent memory,” McCready said. “Steve’s professionalism, dedication and kindness exemplify ‘The Brigham Way.’”

Dempsey joined Partners HealthCare in 1997 as part of the formation of its Real Estate and Facilities team, followed by his promotion to Planning and Construction director in 2000. He was a Partners employee stationed at the Brigham until 2015, when he came on officially as a BWHer. Earlier in his career, Dempsey worked in the private sector for a commercial real estate development firm that partnered with BWH; there, he managed the finances of the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Tower lobby construction projects.

“I’m grateful to be recognized with this title and excited to continue my commitment to getting better at what we do each day with our facilities, planning and construction,” Dempsey said.

Dempsey earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Bowdoin College and a master’s in business administration from Fordham University.
